Learning to Learn

1 | “How has this course changed your outlook on learning? What’s changed? Why?”

I’m obsessed with the flipped classroom model now. It’s made me a better student because it holds me accountable for my own learning. If I don’t get my pre-class work done, it’s on me if I’m behind. But on the flip side if I get everything done and use it as a jumping off point for my own research and play with the concepts that are covered I go into class feeling super comfortable and prepared.

2 | “When frustration comes up how do you be with it? What’s your course of action?”

It takes a lot for me to get frustrated. When I do though I usually try to work through it for a bit and see if I can solve whatever problem is frustrating me. If it goes on for a bit though I give myself a break, walk away and get some space. I find if I can separate myself from it for a minute and come back in fresh I see things in a different light and can maybe find a solution.
On a more general coding note though, I just remind myself that all of this has been a bit frustrating at times but the satisfaction of solving the problem is worth the struggle to get there.

3 | “Why should we teach to the whole person rather than to just a skill set? What benefits are there to this method?”

Because by teaching a skill set you just teach people to memorize and regurgitate information. Teaching to the whole person teaches students how to learn, how to apply what they learn and how be a functional human and desirable job candidate.

4| “How do you feel about your upcoming project? What do you anticipate while working with a classmate?”

Well we don’t get to work with anyone directly on this since we’re all online. But we do have a group chat and it’s been great to bounce ideas off of each other and work through class assignments that we’ve gotten stuck on. Sometimes you just need another set of eyes.

5 | “What benefits will there be to working with someone else?”

Again, just having another set of eyes to catch things in your code that you may have accidentally passed over seems incredibly helpful. Double the creative brainstorming power? Yes, please. Also it’s good to work with partners now and get used to the workflow flow of partner work because we’ll most likely be doing that in future jobs.

6 | “What challenges could come with this partnership?”

Creative differences, miscommunication, branching issues and merge conflicts.
